Preserve, Then Rewind
by Brandon Boan

This show features a new sculpture/video installation by Brandon Boan. Boan's work involves materials that change with time, and video observations of these processes.

Of his work, Boan states, "My artistic practice focuses on modes of recording as a way to manipulate the appearance of objects and images, that can either support or interrupt previously implied histories and associations (i.e. using a procedure for floor cleaning to develop an installation about clays tendency to amalgamate or bifurcate). Simple processes, like tracing or burnishing, put in conjunction with things like light responsive polymers or thermal paper, offer a situational flux and refocusing of material maintenance. This type of observational maintenance demands watching as an integral point of manipulation. "

The opening reception for Preserve, Then Rewind will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Rererato Artspace, 5135 NE 42 nd Ave in Portland, OR.

Performing music this evening will be Big Spider's Back and The Unit Breed.
